Colgate-Palmolive Supports Hispanic Students on Their Path to College and a Brighter Future by Awarding $ 100,000 in Scholarships

In Partnership with the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, Haz La U Scholarships Are Helping Shape the Future, One Smile at a Time

NEW YORK, September 15, 2021 Palmolive is now accepting applications for its annual Make the U Scholarship for the 2022-2023 school year. In partnership with the Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF), the program seeks to help with the financial needs that Latinx students may have on their way to college. 31 scholarships totaling $ 100,000 will be awarded, available to Latinx high school students in the US, who have demonstrated academic excellence, volunteerism, and leadership in their community. Applications are open until November 14, 2021.

As part of this year’s efforts, Colgate has created a video that tells the story of Lizbeth Luevano, one of the 2019 Haz La U winners. Lizbeth grew up in Coachella Valley, California in a mixed immigration status household. His father was a farmer and his mother helped care for more than 10 children in her neighborhood. And they instilled in her the values that define her today: dedication, compassion, and a great desire to help others. As a result, Lizbeth continues her education at Stanford University, where she pursues a degree in Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity, as well as Earth Systems.

“It was difficult to see the difference in opportunities that my other teammates had, realizing that there were things that were accessible to them but not to me,” said Lizbeth Luevano. “As a winner of the Haz La U scholarship it has given me the opportunity to go to Stanford University, to pursue my career as an immigration graduate. My hope for the future is to live in an environment where my neighbors can thrive and have as I do access to education. “

“Colgate-Palmolive is an innovative and caring growth company that reinvents a healthier future for all people. We are proud to continue our commitment to the Hispanic community and to award scholarships to these extraordinary students through Haz la U,” said Dana Medema, vice president and general manager of North America Oral Care for Colgate-Palmolive. “We are inspired by the story of Lizbeth helping her community because at Colgate we believe that we all deserve a future to smile about. We hope that by sharing her story, more students will seek and aspire to be the leaders of tomorrow.”

For more than 10 years, Colgate-Palmolive has partnered with the Hispanic Heritage Foundation to award Haz La U scholarships through its annual Youth Awards program. “” We are extremely proud to continue our collaboration with Colgate and its Haz la U program. It offers educational assistance to Hispanic students, bringing them one step closer to achieving their higher education goals, “said Antonio Tijerino, president and CEO, of the Hispanic Heritage Foundation. “This important effort with Colgate through our Youth Awards program will showcase the tremendous talent and potential of our youth. The scholarships will help young leaders continue their journey to make a positive impact in our community and in America. “

At the regional level, the Haz La U program will award 10 gold scholarships worth $ 4,000 each, 10 silver scholarships worth $ 3,000 each, and 10 bronze scholarships worth $ 2,000 each. One of the regional winners will win 1 national scholarship worth $ 10,000. To apply or have more information about Haz La U visit Colgate.com/HazLaU.
